Our trip to New England

We had quite a journey this past week. We flew to Boton, took the train to New York, and a "bus" (as Madeline liked to call the large Van) to Connecticut and then flew back home. Madeline was overjoyed, especially with the train part. She loves transportation. Planes, trains and automobiles, and most importantly FIRE TRUCKS. Fire trucks are by far her favorite. At home we have to drive by the fire station twice a day to see if the door is open and we can sneak a peek at the shiny red engine, but in New York it was a much bigger deal. The fire station had 4 engines to look at, hoses out front, and friendly fireman that would talk to her. I think the highlight of her trip was walking past the station each day. She would go to sleep each night and say, "And tomorrow, when I wake up, we go by the fire station to see if the door is open, right mommy?"

Other highlights of Madeline's trip were the Children's Museum in Boston, where Wes slept most of the time; the Central Park Zoo in New York, where she watched polar bears sleep, monkey's attack, and sea lions splash, and finally feeding the birdies in the park. She loved feeding the birds her bagel, goldfish crackers and various snacks. She cried when the birds wouldn't let her catch them, but got over it soon. Our transition home was pretty easy, considering Madeline never left West Coast time. I kid you not, she was up til at least 11:00 pm every night of the trip. A bit of a disaster for us during the trip, but worked out great once we got home. And now that she is home she can't wait to meet her new cousin Kaitlyn. She talks about Kaitlyn everyday and can't wait to kiss her toes "really gentle" she says.

Wesley, as usual, was just fantastic. He's such an easy going kid. He turned 11 months old while we were gone and if it hadn't been for the cold and horrendous puss filled ear infection that he got near the tail end of the trip he would have been fine the entire time we were gone. Poor little buddy ended up spending his last few days in a lot of pain and completely medicated, but he was still in great spirits, eating and sleeping and enjoying being out of the hotel room. He cried and fussed a good deal in the room, but put him in the stroller and head out and he was happy as a clam. He'd just check out the sites, laugh, babble and sleep.

How Wes spent most of his trip.
